Initial Teaching Training (ITT)

What is School Direct?

School Direct is an employment based Initial Teacher Training Programme

Tall Oaks Academy Trust (White's Wood Academy) has now been confirmed as a lead school for the School Direct ITT Programme. We work in partnership with Bishop Grosseteste University and have fee-paying places available for September 2016-17. All graduates can apply for this route and it is funded through tuition fees. You may be eligible for a bursary.

We are working with a number of partner schools across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire to provide student teachers with a broad and diverse range of school experiences.

Schools we are working with are:

  • Castle Wood Academy, Gainsborough

  • Blyton Cum Laughton CofE Primary School, Gainsborough

  • Mercer's Wood Academy, Gainsborough

  • Corringham CofE Primary School

  • Hemswell Cliff Primary School

  • The Gainsborough Academy, Gainsborough

Successful completion of training will gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

Why train with us?

White's Wood Academy (our lead school) is the only Outstanding Junior School in Lincolnshire. Mercer's Wood Academy is a primary school in our Trust and was judged to be also Outstanding in all areas in September 2014. We have recently opened a third school, Castle Wood Academy which has 2 Foundation Stage classes led by an Outstanding Foundation Stage Lead Practitioner.

Tall Oaks Academy Trust has a long-standing relationship with Bishop Grosseteste University, working in partnership to train good and outstanding teachers. Many teachers who have trained with us through Bishop Grosseteste University have gone on to secure teaching jobs within our schools. In fact, our current Leadership Team consists of 3 teachers who trained through Bishop Grosseteste University and had placements within our Trust.

All students who train through us will have opportunities to observe Outstanding teaching within our Trust and partner schools.

We have a dedicated School Direct Lead within our Trust who will liaise with partner schools, organise placements and lead mentor support not only whilst you are training but also into your NQT year.
